About the Artist

Linda Rutenberg was born in Montreal, Canada in 1952. She has a BFA in film and music and an MFA in Photography from Concordia University. She has taught photography and worked as a freelance photographer for thirty years. In 1995 she opened Camera Lucida Image Centre in Montreal which housed a darkroom rental facility, a lab, a school and a gallery. In 1997 she left Clic and opened Galerie Mistral, a fine art photography gallery in Montreal, Canada and served as its director for five years. These days she produces work, teaches, lectures and gives workshops all over the world.

Her fine art work has been exhibited internationally and most recently in Canada, the US and England. Her work has been about the interplay between cities, the environment and its people. She has produced several series:- Urban Visions, One Island - Many Cities, Mont Royal - A World Apart, The Spiritual Landscape and for the last five years has worked on The Garden at Night, a nocturnal garden series in Canada, the US and England. More recently, her newest work "Gaspe" is about the notion of remote and has taken her up to the Gaspe Peninsula in the winter...

In addition to her photographs, Linda has produced many books. Her award-winning Mont Royal-A World Apart reveals one year's exploration of the Frederic Law Olmstead Park that is in the heart of Montreal, Quebec. She has also produced eleven books in a series with ECW Press on thirteen North American cities: Her latest books, The Garden at Night (2007), After Midnight (2008)and The English Garden at Night (2009) take us on a journey through the most beautiful botanical gardens at night.

Linda's work has been purchased my many prominent corporate collections, is in the National Gallery of Canada and the archives of the Biblioteque Francaise in Paris.

Linda has just exhibited at Morven Museum, Princeton, NJ, Ancien Palais de Justice, Kamouraska, Quebec and is currently exhibiting on the Richelieu River as part of Rendez Vous Photographique de Richlieu.

She also lectures and teaches Master Workshops.
