Artist's Statement
Amy Touchette is a fine art photographer based in Brooklyn, New York who was trained at the International Center of Photography. She began her artistic career as a writer and painter, earning a BA in Literature with a minor in Studio Art and an MA in Literature, and now works as a teacher assistant at ICP and a freelance writer for Photo District News' magazine PDNedu, among others. Her work examines social patterns and behaviors, such as the merits of perseverance and individuality in female burlesque dancer The World Famous *BOB* in Shoot the Arrow: A Portrait of The World Famous *BOB* and the intriguing combination of vulnerability and freedom extant in today's New Yorkers in The Insiders. Her photographs have been published or exhibited in China, the Netherlands, Australia, New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston, and her series Deborah, a portrait of homelessness, is featured in LoudMouth Press's most recent fine art publication Why Are Your Surprised I'm Still Here?. Amy is currently at work on several personal projects, including an ongoing series about nightlife, art, and Brooklyn.
