Artist's Statement
My photographs are mainly of children during childhood and adolescence. I attempt to capture special moments that are there but for a blink of an eye. The theme that runs through my work is innocence; a child's smile, his shadow or her play. My photographs do not always show the happy side of childhood, but instead try to display what the child's emotions was during the time the photograph was taken, whether it is sadness or trying to act grown up. I try to capture those unguarded instants when my subjects are not playing any role at all, when their masks have been shed to reveal the surprising truth that each child's soul is already developed, no matter what their age.
My photographs are not posed, and I attempt to use available light whenever possible. My hope is to give viewers a window to their childhood. All my prints are toned with gold, selenium or sepia toners or a combination thereof to create a warm feeling of nostalgia, thus further drawing viewers back into childhood memories.
