Artist's Statement As a sculptor, the other work I do - it's natural for me to think of photography three dimensionally. And all the things I'm drawn to, all the objects I collect to work with, have for me a magic about them. I suppose, in a way, I'm trying to make the two dimensional come alive again by dressing it in it's missing dimension. It's the trick of the shaman that I guess is the secret wish of all sculptors. I like Roland Barthes observation, that photography is "the place where death went when religion let go." That makes sense to me. Chris Piazza, 2007 |
