Bob's personal journey with his fine art photography continues with his series of silver portraiture. Often using himself as the portrait's subject, the work's intent is to spark a discussion about issues of self-examination in the contexts of gender and identity that each of face at points in our lives. Often whimsical in nature, Bob's work can be viewed as unsettling or disturbing. However, the purpose of the work is not usually to shock, but rather to request a personal response from the viewer. Viewer engagement is of underlying importance in Bob's work that continues to be personally investigative. Carey's most recent work extends exploration of transformation and self-actualization through abstraction. The artist charts a new course with abstraction with his move toward figurative portraiture.
