Artist's Statement

Born in 1961, I have made NYC my primary residence for most of my life. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont in 1983.
I have been photographing for the past 14 years.

The qualities of photography for me have been ideal for expressing the transitory nature of time and emotion, and the interplay between them. I have photographed a wide range of subject matter over the years, including--but not limited to--street photography, landscapes, images of the human body, and more abstract imagery. In all cases however, I want to repeatedly explore the tension between the world as it is, and what it appears to be, between apparent innocence and what may lie beneath the surface, or in the next moment. By creating a certain moodiness and tension in my imagery through the use of light, shadow, and composition, among other tools, I find that I am consistently striving to create an intimacy with the viewer where a window to the soul is opened, and left exposed.
